Great Wolf Lodge offers swimming lessons in the off-season. The lessons are broken down by age and level, covering the whole span from parent-in-the-water exploration to stroke development. In addition, on the day of lessons, the water park is open to the student and 2 chaperons. In addition, you get a voucher that lets you purchase up to 10 additional wrist bands for $8 each over the course of the lessons if you want to bring additional people.

The first fall 2013 session runs from from September 16 - October 9 on Mondays & Wednesdays

The second fall 2013 session runs from October 21 - November 13

Water Exploration

  • Age: 6 mo - 3 yr with a parent or caregiver
  • Length: 30 min.
  • Ratio: 1 instructor to 15 kids
  • Objectives: Intro. young kids to water with parent. The skills that are taught will give the parent a wide variety of activities to help parents and children safely enjoy the water together. At the end of this level the child should feel comfortable in the water enough to swim with the instructor.
 

Level 1 (Cubs)

  • Age: 2 ½ to 4 yr
  • Length: 30 minutes
  • Ratio: 1 instructor to 4 children
  • Objectives: Blow bubbles, hold breath under water, flutter kick on side of pool, front float with assistance, back float with assistance, safely enter and exit the water alone, jump to instructor in shallow water, fully submerge head underwater, discuss pool rules and water safety. Ultimately the goal is for the child to be excited about going under water all by themselves (without coaching).
 

Level 2 (Bear)
  • Age: 4-7 years
  • Length: 30 minutes
  • Ratio: 1 instructor to 4 children
  • Objectives: Blow Bubbles, Bobs (submerge head without holding nose), kick on front length of pool with flotation device, front float without assistance, back float without assistance, glide and kick 10 feet to instructor on front, glide and kick 10 feet to instructor on back, jump off side to instructor in deeper water and discuss pool rules and water safety. To pass this level the child needs to float on their front and back with out assistance.
 

Level 3 (Moose)
  • Age: 4-8
  • Length: 30 minutes
  • Ratio: 1 instructor to 4 children
  • Objectives: Bobs, introduce rotary breathing, introduce front crawl arm pull, introduce coordination of front crawl arms and breathing, introduce coordination of back crawl arm pull and kicking, jump off side to instructor in deeper water and discuss pool rules and water safety. To pass this level the child needs to have the basic concepts of front crawl.
 

Level 4 (Wolf)
  • Age: 5-9 years
  • Length: 30 minutes
  • Ratio: 1 instructor to 4 children
  • Objectives: Retrieve object from bottom of pool with eyes open (may use goggles), perform a streamline on front, hold kickboard with rotary breathing the length of pool, flutter kick on back with kickboard the length of pool, coordinate front crawl arm pull with breathing, coordinate back crawl arm pull with kick, introduce elementary backstroke arm pull and kick (inverted whip kick), coordinate elementary backstroke kick and arms, introduce techniques to tread water, and discuss pool rules and water safety. To pass this level the participant must be proficient at front and back crawl.
 

Level 5 (Deer)
  • Age: 5-9 years
  • Length: 30 minutes
  • Ratio: 1 instructor to 4 children
  • Objectives: Swim two lengths of pool front crawl, back crawl and elementary backstroke. Tread water for one minute, introduce sidestroke arms, introduce scissors kick, coordinate sidestroke arms and kick, swim length of pool sidestroke, and discuss pool rules and safety. At this level endurance swimming is introduced with front and back crawl.
 

Level 6 (Owl)
  • Age: 6-10 years
  • Length: 30 minutes
  • Ratio: 1 instructor to 6 children
  • Objectives: Introduce breaststroke kick (whip kick), introduce breaststroke arm pull, coordinate breaststroke (pull, breathe, kick, and glide), introduce and coordinate butterfly kick, arms, and body roll, introduce open turns, swim continuously two lengths of (free, back, elementary back and sidestroke) swim 25 yards breaststroke, swim 15 yards butterfly, tread water for 2 minutes. Participants continue to gain distance and learn breaststroke and butterfly.
